The PDF file attached hereto is the daily journal that I am writing while going through proton beam radiation treatments for prostate cancer at the Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda, CA. In places it is graphic. I wrote it to give those interested in following my saga a site to go to, and to give men and their wives in the future a blow-by-blow account of my experience. Prostate cancer kills many thousands of men annually only because, for most men, their cancer is not discovered until it has metastasized. When caught early, it is very treatable, but the treatments generally offered to patients are frightening (to say the least), and carry the possibility of unpleasant side effects that can last for the rest of a man's life. Prostate surgery can be particularly frightening, but surgery may not be the best option. I would urge any man to DO HIS OWN RESEARCH and MAKE HIS OWN DECISIONS.
For those who are interested in proton radiation therapy, Loma Linda is the most experienced, but now there are centers offering proton radiation therapy at MD Anderson in Houston, in Jacksonville, FL, Oklahoma City, Boston, and three or four other locations. Two websites that are very informative are www.protonbob.com and www.protons.com. The book advertised at the protonbob.com website, You Can Beat Prostate Cancer, And You Don't Need Surgery To Do It, by Bob Marckini, should be a "must read" for every man approaching 50. or younger if prostate cancer runs in your family.
